5 Things to Know Today, Dec. 17: Winterfest at Scigliano's and More

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. , 15260 FishHawk Blvd., Lithia, will host Winterfest Dec. 17 starting at 9 a.m. with breakfast with Santa. The cost is $10 for children over 10 years old and $5 for children age 2 to 10. Children under 2 are admitted free. In addition, there will be a bounce house, cookie decorating, kids' games and face painting. Bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots and get a free picture with Santa.

2. Grace Community United Methodist Church at FishHawk, 5708 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd., Lithia, will host a family movie night featuring "A Christmas Story" Dec. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. Church youth will be on hand to wrap gifts during the movie. Call 813-661-8858 or visit gcumconline.com.

3. Kids of all ages are invited to Hillsborough County Animal Services, 440 N. Falkenburg Rd., Tampa, to meet Santa for his "Wishes Fill Dishes" holiday event to help needy shelter pets. Tell Santa your own holiday wishes, and even get a keepsake photo to take home. The suggested donation is pet food or any item from the Animal Angel Tree Wish List plus $5 for the photo, which benefits the medical fund. Adopt a shelter pet during the event and get your family's photo portrait with Santa free. All adoptable pets come spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated, licensed (tags) and health-checked by veterinarians.

4. Newborns in Need, Central West Florida Chapter in Valrico, a nonprofit organization, is holding a working meeting Saturday, Dec. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, Volunteers are invited to knit, crochet, sew or quilt baby items for premature babies for the economically disadvantaged. Donations of baby items such as sleepers, wipes, Ivory soap, socks and booties for preemies are welcome. Meetings are held on the third Saturday monthly. 5. The Golden Spike Enterprises Train and Railroad Show will be held Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. 301 N., Tampa. More than 300 tables and displays will feature large model trains and railroadiana including lanterns, timetables, china and more. Adult admission is $8, good for two days. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Call 813-949-7197.
