5 Things to Know Today, Dec. 12: Electric Cars Get Charged at Bloomingdale Library

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Join Hillsborough County to celebrate the installation of the county’s first electric car charging station, located at the Bloomingdale Regional Public Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. This electric car charging station is the first of several to be installed at county facilities over the coming months.

2. Bring your kids grades pre-kindergarten through third out for a holiday revue celebrating the many cultures around the world at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon.

Santa's Holiday Revue is a fast-paced rollicking musical that gives a tour of the dances, songs and stories from Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and many more. Students will sing, clap and tap along as they learn new and old traditions, customs and folklore that instill the magic of the season. The experience celebrates the true spirit of cultural diversity.

The production will be presented at 10:15 a.m. and 7 p.m.

3. New Horizons Group Homes, a nonprofit organization that runs group homes in Brandon for intellectually challenged adults, has unveiled its 17th historical Brandon keepsake ornament. This year's ornament depicts the Carey Cattle Co., run by Bill Carey starting in the 1950s on the site where Westfield Brandon is today. Brandon artist Lora Eisenberg designed the ornament just as she had in past years. The ornaments are available for $18 at New Horizons Group Homes and the following businesses: Age’s Art & Frame, Bill’s Prescription Center,Martin’s Jewelers,Rainbow Engraving and The Frame Shop & Gallery.

Many of the old ornaments ornaments also are available for $10 each, although 1995, 2000, 2001 and 2004 are no longer available.

4. Knitting Matters, for knitting enthusiasts, takes place at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, Mondays at 10 a.m.

5. The St. Stephen Career Transition Ministry offers career aptitude counseling and support for those who are out of work each Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Stephen Catholic School, 10424 St. Stephen Circle, Riverview.
