5 Things to Know Today, Aug. 6

Art, music and shopping are on tap for the Bloomingdale area today.

1. Support your local artists. The Brandon League of Fine Arts will host a Stay Cool Indoor Summer Artfest Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. A variety of artists will have their works for sale. It's a great chance to pick up a piece of one-of-a-kind art.

2. Chuck Weirich's 40-year-old dream has come true. The professional trumpet player from Valrico has just released his first CD, a compilation of his favorite songs and a tribute to his hero, Herb Alpert. Weirich invites the community to celebrate with him at a CD release party Saturday, Aug. 6, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Cork & Olive Wine Bar and Cafe, 2086 Badlands Drive, Brandon. Weirich will perform songs from his CD and autograph copies of his CD. Also scheduled to appear are T.J. & Tazz, two members of the new jazz group Global Affect.

3. Back By Demand Consignment Boutique Shoppe, 173 Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, in Bloomingdale Plaza, will host its grand opening Saturday, Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop by and meet owners Joseph and JoAnna Piazza.

4. Ladies Night returns to Winthrop Town Centre Saturday, Aug. 6. The event is hosted by the Little Shops at Winthrop located in between Starbucks and Five Guys at the corner of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road.

The Little Shops at Winthrop include Royalty X Thr33 and Bellafia Chocolate Boutique, 6028 Winthrop Town Centre Ave. Vendors will set up booths in front of the shops for Ladies Night. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last until approximately 9 p.m. There will be music, raffle prizes, refreshments and discounts.

5. Park Square Cellar, 16132 Churchview Drive, Lithia, will offer an Italian wine class Saturday, Aug. 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. Taught by wine/retail manager Courtney Richards and guest lecturer Rob Horvath from Hidalgo Imports, residents will learn about and taste Italian wines. The cost is $25. Call 813-685-2267.
