5 Things to Know Today, Aug. 4

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. YP Brandon will host a networking social Thursday, Aug. 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Smokey Banes Bar & Fire Grill, 136 Brandon Town Center Drive, Brandon. There will be hors d'oeurvres and happy hour specials. The event is free for YP Brandon members and $5 for guests.

Those attending are asked to bring school supplies for the upcoming Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon's Stuff the Bus event.

2. Silly Sam the Music Man will perform a free program at the Bloomingdale Regional Public Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, Thursday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m.

Silly Sam the Music Man puts on an interactive music show that gets kids dancing, singing and learning about just how much fun music can be. There are instruments to play, silly songs to sing, and a little magic thrown into the mix.

3. The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Preserve at Alafia, 10110 Gibsonton Drive, Riverview. There will be a tour of the riverfront apartment community along with music and refreshments.

4. Kids Community College FishHawk is hosting an open house Thursday, Aug. 4, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 16641 FishHawk Blvd. Parents can tour the facility and meet the staff. There will be activities for children including a bounce house, Kona Ic, Phone Booth, Drawing Point and USbourne books.

In addition, there will be a chance to sign up for dance classes offered by Victoria's School of Dance at Kids Community College.

Kids Community College is open to children ages 12 months to 12 years. Programs include preschool, free pre-kindergarten (VPK), morning drop-off and after-school care as well as summer camp.

Space is limited. There is a $50 enrollment special for those who sign up before Aug. 20.

5. The AARP will host a driver safety class Thursday, Aug. 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 121 N. Knights Ave., Brandon. To register, call Roger Block at 813-629-3365.
