5 Things to Know Today, Aug. 27

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. A fish fry to benefit Hillsborough County Sheriff's  will be held Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at , 701 W. Lumsden Road in Brandon. Hancock is battling bone cancer. The cost is $8 and table orders or takeout meals will be available.

2. Macy's Shop for a Cause will take place at , 459 Brandon Town Center Drive, Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Purchase a special shopping pass to receive 25 percent off Macy's merchandise in store and online and support your chosen nonprofit organization. The price of a shopping pass is $5, and the proceeds will be kept by the nonprofit charity that sells it. Among the area nonprofits participating are the Brandon Ballet and Operation Patriot. Those participating also are eligible to win a $500 shopping spree.

3. Join the magic and audition to be an extra in Brandon Ballet's production of "The Nutcracker." Dancers from the Tampa Bay area ages 7 and older are invited to audition for roles such as party scene boys, little and big rats, soldiers, angels. There also are parts available for party scene adults. Auditions will be held at , 161 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, Aug. 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 813-684-4282. 

4. The Stuart Mackey campaign for honorary mayor of Riverview will host a Family Movie Night featuring "Shrek Forever After: The Final Chapter, Saturday, Aug. 27. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event will include popcorn, candy, drinks and raffles available for purchase. Donations will be taken at the door. Proceeds will go to LifeCare of Brandon. Call 813-654-0491

5. Frenzie Life Theatre will present "The Children's Hour" Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Winthrop Barn Theatre, 11349 W. Bloomingdale Ave., Riverview.

Written in 1934, the drama is set in an all-girls boarding school run by two women, Karen Wright and Martha Dobie. An angry student, Mary Tilford, runs away from the school and to avoid being sent back she tells her grandmother that the two headmistresses are having a lesbian affair. The accusation proceeds to destroy the women's careers, relationships and lives.

Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for seniors, military and students with I.D.
