5 Things to Know Today, Aug. 21

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. The Frenzie - Life Theatre production of Lillian Hellman’s “The Children’s Hour,” will be presented Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. on stage at the Barn Theatre at Winthrop, 11349 Bloomingdale Ave., in Riverview.

Hellman’s 1934 stage play is set in an all-girls boarding school run by two women, Karen Wright and Martha Dobie, who are accused of being lesbians by an angry student, Mary Tilford.

Tickets cost $15 for general admission and $12 for seniors, military and students with identification. The show is not recommended for children under age 13. Children under age 5 are not permitted.

2. The fourth annual Run for the Fallen will take place today starting at 9 a.m. at E.G. Simmons Park in Ruskin.

The free memorial remembrance walk/run (1 mile and 5K) is to honor the fallen Florida heroes from Iraq and Afghanistan. If you cannot walk/run, just come out to volunteer, cheer others on or wave flags along the route. The Florida Fallen Memorial, owned and operated by Jim Vanderbleek, will be on display at the event, hosted by T.A.M.P.A./Tampa Area Marine Parents Association.

3. Congregation Beth Shalom will host its annual open house and free bagel brunch Sunday, Aug. 21, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the synagogue, 706 S. Bryan Road, Brandon. The event is free and open to the public. Those attending can view Congregation Beth Shalom's showcase of activities, groups and committees. There will be representatives from all of the congregation's groups on hand to answer questions.

4. Check out the back-to-school Zumba dance party at Dancin' Motion School of the Arts, 127 W. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon. It includes  two hours of dancing and shaking it up for only $10 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be food, drinks and raffles as well.

5. Head on over to the Riverview VFW Post 8108 for an all-you-can-eat breakfast for just $6 from 9 a.m. to noon. The post is at 7504 Riverview Dr, Riverview.
