5 Things to Know Today, April 5

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. It's time to do some spring cleaning. The FishHawk Homeowners Association is giving residents an ideal way to get rid of old clothes, toys and kitchen accessories they no longer need.

The semi-annual FishHawk Ranch HOA Garage Sale will be held Saturday, April 9 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The cost to register for the garage sale is $5 per driveway. To register, residents can do so in person at the Osprey Club,  5721 Osprey Ridge Drive, Lithia, (cash or check only), or by credit card via PayPal on www.FishHawkConnect.com.
Last year, nearly 500 houses registered for the event.

2. Write you life story with the help of instructors at the Bloomingdale Regional Library.  A Life Story Writing Workshop will be held at the Bloomingdale Regional Public Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave. in Valrico, Tuesdays, April 5 at 10:30 a.m.

 This is an award-winning program of encouragement and instruction in writing your own "Life Story" and organizing a "Life Story" portfolio.

The class is limited to 10 participants. Preregister at the Bloomingdale Regional Library Ask-Me Kiosk.

3. Valrico Advantage Academy, which is building a new facility on Boyette Road near the intersection of Bell Shoals Road, is hosting a parent information session tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. Principal Bonnie Guertine will provide parents with an overview of the school program, curriculum and academic expectations. Parents can also tour the current facility at 1653 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, and meet members of our faculty. The school will move to its new location at 13306 Boyette Road in August 2011. 4. Allen Boatman, an instructor with the Falkenburg Jail horticulture program, will present a program titled, "Captive Audience Horticulture," April 5 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico. Call 813-273-3652.

5. The Brandon Bar Association will present a free legal information session to Brandon residents on Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. at the Brandon Regional Library, 619 Vonderburg Drive. The April session will feature attorney, Dan Pilka, discussing the legal issues pertaining to homeowners associations.  This is the 10th session in the Brandon Bar's Legal Information Series with a range of topics from estate planning to divorce to bankruptcy.     

Area residents are encouraged to attend this free legal seminar and have their legal questions answered. Pilka will present information relating to homeowners associations including bylaws, amendments, enforcement of covenants and restrictions, collection of dues and fees, and other associated topics.
