5 Things to Know Today, April 1

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1, Beware of pranksters. Today is April Fool's Day, a day celebrated around the world with jokes. The earliest recorded association between April 1 and foolishness can be found in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in 1392.

2. Stages Productions will present "The Frog Prince" Friday, April 1 at 11:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. This musical comes to life with its timeless lessons of compassion, keeping promises and true beauty. This musical cleverly mixes these vital themes with songs and comedy. It is suitable for prekindergarten through third grade. Tickets are $6 for members, $7 for nonmembers and tickets must be purchased in advance. Study guides are available. Call 813-685-8888.

3. After being postponed due to weather, the St. Stephen Spring Jubilee will kick off today at 4 p.m. on the grounds of St. Stephen Catholic School, 10424 St. Stephen Circle, Riverview, off Boyette Road. The jubilee will feature a midway with 32 rides from Arnold's Amusements including some of the most popular thrills rides as well as games. There will be hourly entertainment under the Big Top and fairgoers will find a variety of food prepared by St. Stephen Catholic Church volunteers, Beef O' Brady's and The Alley, in addition to a wine and beer garden. Food choices will include New Orleans-style crabcakes, barbecue, fish and chips, Philly steak sandwiches, pizza, hot dogs, fries, Cuban sandwiches and ice cream.

Admission and parking are free. Fairgoers can purchase a armband for all the rides for $17 in advance or $20 the day of the event.

3, The Brandon Relay for Life will take place April 1 at 6 p.m. at Brandon High School, 1101 Victoria St., Brandon.

All cancer survivors and their caregivers are invited to walk the first lap of the American Cancer Society's Brandon Relay for Life and stay for a free dinner at 6 p.m. There will be food and activities set up around the high school track throughout the night as teams walk the track to raise funds and awareness of cancer.

4, A Night at Sea nautical-themed fundraiser will take place April 1 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Women's Resource Center, 1017 Kingsway Road, Brandon. This is the fourth annual fundraiser for the center.

There will be a dinner with an exciting live production to raise funds for the Women's Resource Center.Tickets are $50.

5. Bell Shoals Academy, 2102 Bell Shoals Road, Brandon, will present its Spring Jubilee "Go Wild" fundraiser April 1 from 2 to 9 p.m. Outside activities between 2 and 6 p.m. will include laser tag, hamster balls, a snow slide, face painting, bounce-arounds, snow cones and popcorn. At 6 p.m. Jaymer-Que BBQ will provide pre-sold dinner in the special events center, 2102 Bell Shoals Road, Brandon. There will be a live auction from 6:30 to 9 p.m. including gift baskets, tickets to professional sporting events, gift cards and weekend getaways.
