5 Things to Know Today

Here are some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

Good morning, Bloomingdale Patch. It's a brisk 58 degrees right now but will quickly warm up to a high of 81 degrees today. It'll be mostly sunny so you can leave those umbrellas at home.

1. The experts say the average person needs eight hours. But is that really enough sleep for a child? A Brandon Regional Hospital Healthy Children Series, "Is Your Child Getting Enough Sleep?," will be held Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at Randall Middle School, 16510 Fishhawk Blvd, Lithia.

2. Come enjoy "Day by Day" and other popular songs from the musical as 30 students in Riverview High School's Theatre Department stage "Godspell," a musical based on the biblical book of Matthew, Feb. 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. in the school auditorium, 11311 Boyette Road.

3. If you're pregnant, you might be at risk for gestational diabetes. Brandon Regional Hospital hosts a gestational diabetes class for for pregnant women every Thursday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Oakfield Medical Center, Classroom C, Suite 258, across from Brandon Regional Hospital. The program includes: medical nutrition therapy; monitoring - use of meter; insulin therapy; exercise guidelines; and overall health. A support person is encouraged to attend. The patient may bring a snack and is requested to bring the glucose meter she will be using. No prescription or referral is needed. For reservations, call (813) 653-1065.

4. Are you an adoptive parent or considering adoption? The Sylvia Thomas Center, 716 S. Oakwood Ave., Brandon, hosts a support and training group to prepare families for adoption. Child care is available. The group meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Call (813) 651-3150.

5. It's a problem facing more and more youngsters. The Brandon Juvenile Diabetes Support Group meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays at Oakfield Medical Plaza, 119 Oakfield Drive, Classroom B, Suite 260, Brandon. Contact Debbie or Chris Roberts at (813) 571-5112.
