5 Things to Know Today

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

  1. Better bring the umbrella again. We've got a 40 percent chance of showers and the temperature won't get above 64 degrees.
  2. Get those Valentine's Day dinner reservations in at your favorite bistros and restaurants! We'll have a list of Valentine's Day specials to choose from today.
  3. Jazz player and historian Shenole Latimer will present a multimedia jazz history program featuring slide shows, live performance examples and some historically significant sound recordings from jazz icons Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico. The program is part of Black History Month and is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Bloomingdale Regional Library.

        4. If you’re not into jazz, check out Jill Wilson. She will perform pop and country Thursday, Feb. 10, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Park Square Cellar, 16132 Churchview Drive, Lithia.

        5. The Florida State Fair opens today and runs through Feb. 21 at the Florida State Fairgrounds. The event includes rides, music, food, exhibits and shows. Gate admission on weekdays is $10 for 12 and older and $5 for ages 6 to 11. Weekend admission is $12 for 12 and older and $6 for ages 6 to 11. Children 5 and under are admitted for free. Senior days are 15-17 with gate admission for seniors $6.
