5 Things to Know Today

Here's some information you might be interested in as you go about your day.

1. Today's weather -- After Tuesday night's cooler temps, you might be able to leave your jacket behind today since it is expected to warm up to 70 degrees.

2.Bloomingdale scholarship -- The Bloomingdale Homeowners Association has opened the application process for its annual scholarship.

Since 2006, the scholarship has been awarded annually to a high school senior living in Bloomingdale West or East.

The scholarship guidelines and application form are available on the Bloomingdale Gazette's Web site, www.BloomingdaleGazette.com. Look for the button, "Bloomingdale Community Scholarship Application" in the upper left part of the page.

The deadline to complete the application is April 1. In May the winner will be invited to attend a Bloomingdale Homeowners Association meeting to receive his or her scholarship.

3. Krzanowski Scholarship -- The deadline for the Maureen Krzanowski $500 Scholarship to be awared by the Community Roundtable is Feb. 11.

Krzanowski was a passionate roundtable member, supporting the Fourth of July parade, the Lions Club and foster children. Since her death in 2006, the Community Roundtable of Greater Brandon has accepted donations to her scholarship fund benefiting a local student dedicated to community service in addition to academic accomplishments.

Brandon area graduating high school students may fill out the application for this educational contribution.  Contact the Community Roundtablevia email at Roundtable2008@aol.com for the application.

4. Hillsborough County budget -- The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing to discuss amending the Fiscal Year 2011 Budget on Wed., Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. at County Center, second-floor boardroom, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. The public hearing will be held to accept comments from the public, and to discuss increased revenues and adjusted associated appropriations, transfers and reserves based on fiscal year 2010 year end balances. 

The total budget is $8,684,656. It includes the County Transportation Trust Fund of $4,764,326, the Countywide Capital Projects Fund of $1,432,237, the Environmental Sensitive Lands Tax Fund of $230,296, the Solid Waste System Enterprise Fund of $709,907, and the Water and Wastewater Utility Enterprise Fund of $959,436.

5. Letter of intent -- Bloomingdale High School Bulls Baseball pitcher Robby Kalaf has signed a letter of intent to attend . Kalaf began playing baseball at the age of 4 at Bloomingdale Little League.
