5 Things to Do With Kids This Weekend

Here are some kid-friendly activities going on this weekend

1. The 14th annual FishHawk Road Race will take place Saturday, Feb. 5 at Park Square at FishHawk Ranch, 16144 Churchview Drive, Lithia. The 5K and 10K will start at 8 a.m. and the kids race at 9:30 a.m.

Race T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 500 adults and 100 kids. Race packets are available for pick-up Friday, Feb. 4 from noon at 7 p.m. at the Information Center at the Osprey Club.

Awards will be presented to the overall male and female winner in both races. Awards also will go to the top three finishers in each age group. Children participating in the kids race will receive ribbons.

A post-race party will include giveaways, food and refreshments.

2. The Home Depot at 10151 Bloomingdale Ave., Riverview, offers workshops for children the first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon. The workshops are designed for ages 5 to 12 and includes projects such as toolboxes, fire trucks, mail organizers, bird houses, bug houses and decorative frames. The workshops include took safety. Each child attending the workshop receives an orange apron and an achievement pin. 

3. The St. Stephen Catholic Church EDGE Youth Group middle school ministry will meet Feb. 5 following the 6 p.m. Mass to 9 p.m. at the ROC Center located on the church property, 5049 Bell Shoals Road. Monday night EDGE classes will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through April 24. The EDGE Rosary-Making Group meets the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the ROC Center.

4.  Friday is Pump It Up Pop In Playtime for preschoolers through kindergarten at Pump It Up, 729 A. W. Lumsden Road, in Oak Park Plaza in Brandon from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The session promotes social development and physical fitness while bouncing, sliding, climbing, and jumping on Pump It Up's giant, soft, interactive inflatibles. The cost for children age 2 to 6 is $8. Reservations are not required. Parents are free and are required to accompany the child. Socks and a signed waiver are required to play.

5. The Brandon Area Pokemon League meets the first and third Sunday of the month from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.
