5 Reasons to Attend the Spring Jubilee

The St. Stephen Spring Jubilee continues today and tomorrow.

The main reason to attend St. Stephen Catholic Church's Spring Jubilee is simply to have a good time. But, just in case you need a stronger incentive to go, here's five more reasons to attend the Spring Jubilee, which runs today from noon to 11 p.m. and tomorrow from noon to 8 p.m. on the grounds of St. Stephen Catholic School, 10424 St. Stephen Circle, Riverview, off Boyette Road.

1. On Friday night, a long line of hungry diners awaited their chance to try out the cajun seafood at the N'Awlins food booth under the big top. Patrick Albert, who's in charge of the booth and is a native of New Orleans, is particularly proud of his fried fish filets, crawfish and crab cakes, and diners agreed they are the best around.

Albert revealed his secret to great seafood.

"First, you have to have really fresh seafood. Then you have to use the right combination of spices and cook them in the perfect temperature for just the right amount of time."

2. Fairgoers will enjoy nonstop entertainment today under the Big Top starting off with a performance by Phillip Shore Elementary School at noon, followed by a hot dog-eating contest at 12:30. There also will be performances by the Rockestra Music Showcase, a Zumba performance, the Riverview High Patel Show Choir, Tampa Bay Rhythmic, Earl Harris Karate, Leonard's Academy of Dance and Centre for the Arts, Judy's Dance Academy, singer Derrick Williams and the Code Blues Band will rock the night away.

3. If you're thirsty, Hope is Contagious, a new ministry at St. Stephen Catholic Church that helps those facing serious illnesses, will be making fresh-squeezed lemonade throughout the day. Beer, wine and sodas also are available.

4. Arnold's Amusements of Riverview has gone all out this year to bring the newest thrill rides to the Spring Jubilee. The midway features 32 rides. Fairgoers can purchase an armband for all the rides for $20.

5. There will be chances to win prizes and cash throughout the day. Don't forget to purchase some raffle tickets. This year's raffle is for a grand prize of $2,500 cash. Other prizes include a 42-inch flat-screen television and a $500 gift certificate to King's Limo. There also is a prize wheel and treasure box featuring smaller prizes.
