Best Taste, Booth, Dessert Awarded at Brandon Chamber Expo

Celebrating its 25th year, the Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon returned to the Florida State Fairgrounds on May 16, presented by the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce.

  More than 1,000 people had their taste buds tickled May 16 at the Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon, presented by the Greater Brandon Chambr of Commerce at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. The event, in its 25 year, featured local restaurants vying for the Best Taste award, an expo tradition. Cheddar’s Casual Café took home the award with the Tampa Bay Times winning for Best Booth and Bahama Breeze Island Grille winning Best Dessert. “It is a great event,” said Brandon’s Gerard Abbett, about the expo and taste that drew about 1500 people and more than 150 exhibitors. “I got about one-third of the way around and had to take a break for an hour because I was full.” Adam Hunt of Hunt Family Dental Care brought his entire …

Brandon Chamber's Signature Event Today

Celebrating its 25th year, the Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon returns to the Florida State Fairgrounds today, May 16.

  The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce has been busy promoting its signature event, which this year celebrates its 25th year. The Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon is scheduled for today, May 16, at the Florida State Fairgrounds, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Recognizing the quarter-century milestone, chamber officials have beeen posting blogs on its Web site , including one that takes a look back at the "big hair" and "shoulder pads" that were all the rage when the event in 1989 "welcomed its very first guests through the doors of the Sheraton Tampa East Hotel. Wok Chi Opens, Serves 'Authentic' Chinese Fare

The first of its kind in the nation, Wok Chi opens in Brandon, with a May 11 benefit for the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center.

  The Wok Chi at the Regency Square shopping center is open after a special grand opening "community celebration" for the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary as a Greater Brandon area fixture. At the May 11 Wok Chi benefit, restaurant founders, promoters, employees and diners talked about the store's concept, roots and menu offerings, with the words "fresh" and "authentic" used liberally. Playtime Now Open for Play, Parties, Special Events

The new Playtime is located at 100 Frandorson Circle, Suite 103, Apollo Beach.

Here's a place where playtime is all the time. Owner Chrissy O'Brien has opened Playtime, an indoor children's play and party center, at 100 Frandorson Circle, Suite 103, Apollo Beach.   Playtime offers open play, play and art classes, birthday parties, parent's nights out, special events and more for children from infants to age 5. "Our gym has a padded floor, and is filled with colorful decorations and equipment," said O'Brien. "Children can role play in the pretend neighborhood, climb on the soft cushioned play equipment, participate in gross motor games and more. The Learning Experience to Celebrate Grand Opening with Family Fun Day

Residents are invited to come out Saturday for some family fun at FishHawk Ranch's newest child-care facility. The Learning Experience, 16232 Bayberry Glen Dr., Lithia, will host a grand opening and family fun day Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will include a children's costume contest, a bounce house, mobile arcade games, laser tag, make-and-take Mother's Day arts and crafts projects and free food and drinks.   The Bloomingdale community is invited this weekend to help support a young father and his family get through a second bout with cancer, starting with a student-faculty basektball game at Bloomingdale High School tonight, May 10, followed by a host of activites at the Beef 'O' Brady's on Bell Shoals Road in Valrico. There, on Saturday, May 11, a yard sale begins at 7 a.m., followed by family friendly activities starting at around noon, including a bouncy house, cotton candy and face-painting stations for kids.
