A chiropractic physician at Florida Orthopaedic Institute

Electronic Medical Records

A few months ago, Florida Orthopaedic Institute moved over to an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for every patient.  Soon, I will be moving from my laptop EMR to an iPAD which will allow even greater mobility and ability to interact and engage the patient with their health information. As a physician, I love the ability to have a patients full health history, treatments, x-rays, etc all at my fingertips.  What are your thoughts on Electronic Medical Records?  Have you been able to see the benefits in your doctors visits?

A good direction. Many kinks still to be worked out. How are they addressing security concerns and privacy laws?

Hello Steve, great questions. Our IT Department certainly knows more about the in's/out's of the network infrastructure than me. My understanding is that housing all information on a centralized server, with proper security, allows a very reliable and secure environment. Personally, I have found that EMR's allow greater patient record privacy, coupled with the ability to share information in a far more effective manner. I could not be happier about the new EMR platforms which are available. Dr. Jay Parkinson is a great person to look up regarding the future of health information and how it has the potential to make health care more effective and efficient.
