Search Continues for Girl With Down Syndrome Missing in Riverview

Last seen walking away from Rodgers Middle School in Riverview, a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome is missing, and a search on foot and in the air is under way, reports the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The search continues for a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome who reportedly was last seen walking away from Rodgers Middle School in Riverview at 1 p.m.

The child reportedly has "very limited verbal skills" and "what limited communication skills she has [are] in Spanish only," according to the report from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The report notes that the girl, Jennifer Caballero, will respond to the name, "Jenny."

Deputies and K-9 units are on the scene, searching the ground, while aviation units are searching from the air. The girl has never been reported missing in the past, according to the report issued by sheriff's spokesperson Larry McKinnon.

Caballero is Hispanic, 5 feet tall, 90 pounds, with small build, black hair and pigtails.

She was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt with pink flowers and black pants.

A staging area for media interests has been set up near the school. Rodgers Middle School is at 11910 Tucker Rd.

Anyone who may have seen the girl, or has information that can help determine her whereabouts, is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sherirff's Office at 813-247-8200.
