Riverview Man Recognized by Deputy as Wanted Man

Arturo Zertuche, 23, who had warrants out for his arrest on attempted murder charges, gave authorities a false name when he was arrested Monday on another charge.

A Riverview man wanted on attempted murder charges tried to pull a fast one on law enforcement officials but didn't fool an observant deputy, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

Arturo Zertuche, 23, of 12117 Glenhill Dr., was brought into the Orient Road Jail on Monday afternoon after being taken into custody by the Plant City Police Department on a petty theft charge. Zertuche had given another name during his arrest, authorities said, but during his booking a sheriff's office detention deputy recognized him from his posting on the Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay website as being wanted for attempted murder charges.

Those charges stem from a June 1, 2009 incident in which Zertuche is alleged to have shot a 29-year-old Gibsonton man in the torso during an early morning altercation outside the man's Honeywell Road residence. Zertuche had pointed his firearm at the victim's head during the fight, officials said, then shot the victim in the rear torso as he tried to move out of the way.

Zertuche was identified by a witness and by the victim, who had personally known him by his nickname, "Chickee," authorities said.

Zertuche is charged with two counts of attempted murder, petit theft, discharging a firearm in public, operating an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended license and attaching a tag not assigned. He is being held on jail without bond.
