GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview May 27-29

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

 

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.

Where/when: Stop by The Farm, 7818 Lithia-Pinecrest Road Lithia, Friday night for some patriotic music and a special flag ceremony to celebrate Memorial Day.

Why go:

The Farm will host a special flag ceremony at its concert May 28 in honor of all the military who have paid the ultimate price. Residents are invited to bring their guitars, banjos, fiddles or other acoustic instruments and join the fun singing about God and country. Hamburgers, hotdogs and beverages will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the music will begin at 7 p.m. There is no admission fee but donations are appreciated. Where/when: The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Bazaar and Yard Sale on Saturday, May 28, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will take place at the Boardwalk of Riverview Offices located off of Gibsonton Drive (between U.S. 301 and I-75), 10011 Water Works Lane, Riverview.

Why go: Find bargains galore including clothes, household items and furniture. Donations will be accepted through May 27.  Call 813-234-5944.

Where/when: Bay Life Church will host its annual Classic Car Show Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 1017 Kingsway Road, Brandon.

Why go: There will be a variety of classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, trucks and exotic cars. In addition, there will be a number of vendors including Chick-fil-A and Jaymer-Que Southern BBQ, a children's coloring contest, arts and crafts, stamping and scrapbooking classes and a live band. The day will begin with a special Memorial Day recognition of the Armed Forces. The Tampa Bay Rays' Street Team will be on hand to talk about driving safety for teens. Throughout the day, there will be food, beverages, door prizes donated by local businesses and a 50/50 drawing. All proceeds from the event go to the church's summer mission trips. The event is free. Where/when: St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 3315 Bryan Road, Brandon, will hosts a jazz concert featuring the East Hillsborough Community Band May 28 at 4:30 p.m.

Why go: Enjoy some great music by some of the top musicians in the East Hillsborough area.

Where/when: Bowl with the Brandon Ballet May 29 from 1:30–4 p.m. at The Alley at Southshore, 10221 Big Bend Road, Riverview.

Why go: Join the Brandon Ballet for an afternoon of unlimited bowling. There also will be chances to win prizes and giveaways. Bowling starts at 2 p.m. The cost is $15 for adults, $10 for students.  Shoe rental is free. Each lane holds six bowlers and spaces are limited.
