Duane Taylor, 59, of Riverview, died Saturday, Nov. 24 at Brandon Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Taylor was born March 6, 1953, in Richmond, Va. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Janice Taylor; son, Benjamin; daughter, Crystal; mother, Thyra North of Kingston, N.Y.; father, Govan Taylor and his wife Eva of Largo; sister, Linda Legg and her husband, George, of Hurley, N.Y.; sister, Lori Rider-Fenwick and her husband, Mike and their children, Rebecca and Billy of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; aunt, Brenda Fleming, and her husband, Rudy, of Richmond, Va.; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents, Govan and Lillie Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a devoted husband and father. He was a superintendent at Tri-City Electric Co. He enjoyed his family and spent relaxation time on his computer. He also enjoyed roller skating in his earlier years, which is how he met his wife. Mr. Taylor spent four years in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1976 followed by two years of Reserve duty. He was also a member of the American Legion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Nov. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Valrico. The Mass will be offered by a close friend, the Rev. Fr. Raphael Iannone of New Paltz, N.Y. Fr. Raphael also had the honor of performing the marriage for Duane and Janice on March 7, 1988.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the Mass. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery.
